Tips for Protecting Your Pets from Fleas and Ticks
As a mobile veterinarian in Kalamazoo, a lot of what I do involves treating pets for fleas and ticks and providing my clients with high-quality, veterinary grade medication. Besides treating your pets on a consistent schedule there are other things you can do to help prevent your pet from being infested with fleas or ticks. It’s also important to understand that cats, even ones who don’t go outside, can get fleas or ticks that you unknowingly bring inside. In this post, we will look at some preventative measures you can take to help prevent fleas and ticks from becoming a problem for you and your pets.
1. Try to limit your pet’s exposure to areas in which fleas, ticks, and other parasites may be present.
2. If your pet does spend time in a heavily wooded area or around strays check them for bugs when they come inside.
3. Spend time feeling around your pet’s body and in their fur for any abnormalities, paying special attention to areas of their body that they cannot easily reach.
4. Check yourself before you come into your home to make sure that you are not bringing anything inside.
5. Thoroughly wash and dry all bedding and other areas where your pet spends a lot of time.
6. Vacuum at least once a week and empty contents into a sealed bag and take out of your home.
At Creature Comfort Veterinary House Call Services, we know no one wants their pets or their homes to be infested with fleas or ticks. We also know, especially in the case of fleas, that it’s much easier to work to prevent the infestation from happening than trying to get rid of it.
